Unless you want your first dance at 11:22, having a timeline for your big day is probably a good idea.
I think timelines have gotten a bad rap…. The infamous bridezilla with her 14 page spreadsheet and stopwatch… But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Actually, the timeline itself isn’t even the most important bit.
Sitting down with your future spouse and giving some thought to how you want your wedding to to unfold and what your priorities are is more important than anything you write down on paper.
Lets face it, weddings are chaotic events. They usually don’t go as planned. Even if you do plan for things, everything takes longer than you think: from traveling in a wedding dress to quickly saying hi to a guest that somehow turns into a 2 hour receiving line.
But once the train goes off the track it’s going to be a lot easier to get things back on schedule if you’ve already thought about what events have a fixed time (dinner, ceremony) and which one’s have some flexibility (pictures, dances…) and which ones might even be skipped (chicken dance, cha cha slide, macerana…notice a trend?)
Although it hurts my manly pride to admit it, I’m a pretty damn good wedding planner. I don’t have a choice, I’m at one of these things about 30 times a year.
All my clients know they can ask me for advice and help with their planning and timelines.
I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t and I want all my couples to have the best day possible.
