WPJA Winning Image

The WPJA Q4 contest results were released today and I’m proud to say one of my images placed 13th in the ‘Bride Getting Ready’ category.

It’s one of my favorite images from 2009 from Sarah + Phil’s wedding in August in Elmira/Mississauga.

WPJA contests are truly a worldwide affair, so to place against some of the best wedding photographers in the world is an honor.

WPJA

I’m happy to announce that Capturing the Light Photography has been accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).

Here’s a little bit about the WPJA from their website:

The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets our members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach – a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography.

I remember when I started photographing weddings I was in awe of some of the work on the WPJA website so to now be a member is a proud moment.  I’m really excited to start entering their quarterly image competitions.  Knowing that I have to enter images every couple months always pushes me to be a better photographer.

Bestofweddingphotography.com

I’m really pleased to announce that Capturing the Light Photography has been chosen to be a member of Bestofweddingphotography.com.

This is an invitation only listing of wedding photographers with all members being chosen by a prestigious board of photographers including Ben Chrisman, Anna Kuperburg and David Beckstead amongst others.  Only 350 invitations were sent out worldwide, so I’m in extremely good company and a little humbled.

19th Place | ISPWP Winter Contest

I just got word that one of my images came in 19th at the ISPWP Winter Photo Contest.

19th might not sound great, but considering the amazing competition from around the world (literally.  Who knew Brazil and Russia had so many great photographers?) I’m really happy to have placed.

5th Place | ISPWP Fall Contest

I’m proud to announce I had another image place well in competition, this time the ISPWP Fall Contest.

You can view all the amazing images here.

5thplace

Stunned…. 3rd place.

I just got back from an amazing 4 days in Texas.  Why?

It was the Foundation Conference hosted by Huy Nguyen from F8 Studios.

Huy also runs the Foundation Workshop (don’t get confused!) that I attended this year and will be back again for next year.

The Foundation Conference was 3 days of seminars and presentations by some of the top wedding photographers from North America.

Sound like every other convention?

Not even close.

The group of people Huy brought together, both the presenters and attendees, were amazing.  The spirit of sharing and trying to inspire is hard to put into words.  It was one of those things were you learned more over lunch or beers than you did in the formal presentations (which were great too).

Anyways, why am I stunned?

The first night was a photo competition with live judging by a panel of photographers.

I was honored when one of my images was selected as a 3rd place winner in one of 5 categories.

As the judges were discussing my image my heart was literally pounding and my mouth went dry… I’m still in shock.

The other entries were mind-blowingly good and I’m honored to have my work looked at in the same way.

ISPWP Summer 2009 Contest

I’m pleased to announce that one of my images placed 10th in the Bride & Groom Portrait catagory of the ISPWP Summer 2009 photo contest.

ISPWP is the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers and features some of the best photographers from around the world (and me!).

10th may not sound like much, but the competition is hugely talented and I consider it an honor to stand beside them.

I’d also like to thank my couple Amanda & Al for being a big part of this image.

I’m proud to announce that Capturing the Light Photography has been listed on the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers(ISPWP) website.

ISPWP is an exlusive listing site with each member having to meet certain criteria and  be approved before they are listed.

Print Ad

I decided to try some print advertising this year and placed an ad in Your Wedding Portfolio.

It’s a bridal planning book that’s handed out at all the local wedding shows, including the Wedding Dreams show at Bingemans.

I used one of my favourite images of the year, featuring Elizabeth & Ben.
