Just wanted to let everyone know about the Awaken Workshop being held in Toronto on March 20-21, 2010 at the Gladstone Hotel.

There’s a great lineup of speakers, some of the best photographers in Canada.  I’ll be there working behind the scenes, so make sure to say hi.

Come down to Toronto’s historic Gladstone Hotel and open your mind to some of Toronto’s most talented portrait and wedding photographers as they share their insights and thought processes with you in a candid and informal manner.

This is a weekend specifically designed to awaken your inner artist and allow you the freedom to become more heart-felt, honest and truthful with your photography.

We have an incredible line up of photographers eager to give back to their photographic community.

Some of the highlights of the workshop will include:

- the photojournalist’s mind : seeing beyond the obvious, understanding the moments, shooting powerful imagery

- clients : falling in love with your clients, setting expectations, developing relationship, managing the wedding day

- spontaneous portraiture : keeping it fresh, maintaining visual diversity, empowering individualism

- critical thinking : evaluating images, cropping, storytelling

- understanding your badass self

- intensive discussion of wedding photojournalism philosophy and Question & Answer session

- lighting demonstration – using the lightstick for distinctive reception and portraiture- review and critique of participants’ work

Registration Fee – $1,200 per person ($800 for spouses or additional persons from the same studio)

WPJA contests are truly a worldwide affair, so to place against some of the best wedding photographers in the world is an honor.

I’m happy to announce that Capturing the Light Photography has been accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).

Here’s a little bit about the WPJA from their website:

The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets our members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach – a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography.

I remember when I started photographing weddings I was in awe of some of the work on the WPJA website so to now be a member is a proud moment.  I’m really excited to start entering their quarterly image competitions.  Knowing that I have to enter images every couple months always pushes me to be a better photographer.

I’m really pleased to announce that Capturing the Light Photography has been chosen to be a member of Bestofweddingphotography.com.

This is an invitation only listing of wedding photographers with all members being chosen by a prestigious board of photographers including Ben Chrisman, Anna Kuperburg and David Beckstead amongst others.  Only 350 invitations were sent out worldwide, so I’m in extremely good company and a little humbled.
